If you go by last year’s final standings for the HSBC Sevens World Series, Australia will enter the Silicon Valley 7s as the fifth seed. The Aussies finished sixth last season, right behind the USA. Australia has never won the World Series, but finished second once and third twice more. The Aussies have also finished second in two 7s World Cups and third in another. So they may not be amongst the 7s elite, but they always field a competitive side. And their women winning Gold in Rio has perhaps lit a fire under the men, so look for Australia to compete for a podium spot in San Jose.
