Scheduled for Saturday, November 4th and Sunday, November 5th at Avaya Stadium in San Jose, the Silicon Valley Sevens International Tournament and Festival will bring some of the world’s great participants in the Olympic sport of Rugby Sevens to the Bay Area for this special event.
Among the 12 teams competing in this debut tournament are the men’s sevens squad from Ireland, the first time that the squad will ever compete in the United States. Also featured are the men’s sevens squads from Tonga, Samoa and Fiji, a triad of Pacific Island national competing in the same tournament for the first time since the 2016 Olympics. Joining them are teams from the United States, Canada, Australia, England, Chile, New Zealand, Japan and China, coming together at the Silicon Valley 7s as they begin preparations for the 2017-2018 international sevens rugby season.
Silicon Valley 7s adds another international tournament to United World Sports growing portfolio that includes the annual USA Sevens Rugby tournament in Las Vegas, which is the largest professional rugby event in North America. United World Sports rugby events also includes the annual Penn Mutual Collegiate Rugby Championship in Philadelphia, the premier collegiate 7s championship and the Penn Mutual Varsity Cup Championship, the 15-s national rugby championship.
Avaya Stadium, which opened in February 2015, has a capacity of approximately 18,000 and is the home field for Major League Soccer’s San Jose Earthquakes.
