Plate Final, Cal v.Clemson: The Tigers entered this matchup looking for a program-defining win over the five-time CRC champion Golden Bears of Cal. A clean scoop of the kickoff saw Cal’s Troy Lockyear away for the self-converted try under the post, just twenty seconds in. Two minutes later, Lockyear made it a pair of tries. A serious injury to Jason Severance muted the enthusiasm for a tremendous Cal effort. The next points for the Bears came from Sam Cusano and conversion by Lockyear. Right after the kickoff, Lockyear made it a hat trick. His third conversion of the match set the line at 26–0 heading into the final minute of the half. The half came to a close with Cal up 31–0 after Cusano added a second try.
The second half started with a sin binning for Clemson captain Drew Dommel. The man advantage allowed Zac Tavenner to get in on the try scoring. Lockyear’s conversion attempt kissed off the post, making it 36–0 as the final five minutes got under way. It soon became six-on-six when Nic Mirhashem was sent off for a late hard hit. The blow left the Clemson player on the pitch for a prolonged time. Two more Cal troes made it 48–0. With no time left, Clemson faced its best opportunity for points, winning a penalty at the Cal twenty-two. Clemson was unable to turn the position into points.
