Dartmouth vs Iona - Collegiate Rugby Championship

Match Summary

Dartmouth, the two-time CRC Champion, looked to stake a claim for a third CRC crown with a win over Iona. A back-and-forth first half finally saw Iona with advantageous circumstances after Dartmouth’s Benji Hannam was sent to the bin in the final minute of the half. Matters got even worse for the Big Green as Struan Coleman joined Hannam in the bin to close the half. The penalties added up and Iona’s Michael Marro crossed for the score that broke the deadlock. Santiago Mascolo’s conversion made it 7–0 at the end of first half.

Still down a man to start the second half, Dartmouth had a stiff challenge to hold Iona back from taking complete control of the contest. Dartmouth was unable to prevent Iona from adding five more points to the lead when Mascolo crossed in the left corner two minutes into the half.

The score brought Dartmouth back to seven man. That soon became an advantage when Iona’s Bryce Stanback was sent to the bin. That opened room for Jack Badenhausen to get in under the post. Ollie Engelhart’s conversion made it 12–7. With just over ninety seconds left, Dartmouth’s #9 (no name) scored to level it. Engelhart’s crucial conversion was no good, keeping it 12 all. Dartmouth continued to attack inside the Iona twenty-two on full time but a pass out to the right wing that would have won the match for Dartmouth turned into a knock to end in a draw.
