Life Women vs Lindenwood Women - Collegiate Rugby Championship

On the heels of the Life victory over Lindenwood in the men’s semifinals, the women’s teams of each school faced off for the CRC crown. The two teams have become quite familiar with each other as this match is a rematch of the 2016 final and the 2017 USA Rugby Sevens tournament final.

It took more than five minutes but Lindenwood finally cracked the tough Life defense with a try in the left corner by Caring De Freitas. After a rough semifinal from the boot, McKenzie Hawkins nailed the conversion from an extremely harsh angle. Lindenwood narrowly missed out on a second try to end the half when Nika Paogofie-Boyten failed to hook up with Kendal McCracken on the offload.

In the first minute of the second half, Darian Lovelace got in for an unconverted score. A short while later, Life’s Christina Swift put her squad ahead with a second Life try. Madison Ohmann added the conversion to make it 12–7. As the clock kept into the eleventh minute, Lovelace made it a brace with her second score. Ohmann failed to add the makeable conversion, leaving the Running Eagles only ten points clear of the Lions.

Unfortunately for Lindenwood, a try with nine seconds left by Kendal McCracken under the post failed to lead to the climactic race to the finish that should have occurred. Lindenwood sought to forego the conversion to have the restart, which was certainly the right decision, but McCracken failed to communicate that decision to the official before time expired, thereby depriving Lindenwood of the chance for the restart. Life 17, Lindenwood 12.
