Lindenwood vs Life - Collegiate Rugby Championship

Cup Final, Lindenwood v. Life: Lindenwood’s opening kick failed to go ten meters, gifting the Running Eagles a freekick to start the match. Solid defense for the Lions led to a full-fledged team try capped by points for Wesley White. Cristian Rodriguez’s sure boot made it 7–0 with 4:30 to go in the half. Standing stiff in defense as Life threatened, the Lions soon took the ball the other way for the eighty-plus-meter score for MJ Spangenberg. Rodriguez’s conversion made it 14–0. A penalty at midfield against the Running Eagles soon saw the defending champions with ball in hand. A strong run was stopped with a stronger tackle, forcing a scrum for Life just outside its own twenty-two. Life’s chances improved in the final thirty seconds of the half when Nicholas Taylor was sent off for an illegal tackle. Life’s Harley Wheeler dove in for the five-pointer to close the gap and the half.

Wheeler repeated the effort in the first minute of the second half to cut the deficit to 14–12. The Lions pushed it back to a two-score advantage when White broke free again for a try under the post. Reece Botha’s conversion made it 21–12 with 1:45 remaining. A penalty inside the Lindenwood twenty-two gave Life one final shot. The Running Eagles just about had the points they needed with enough time to decline the conversion and get a restart opportunity. Instead, the ball was punched out in defense and Lindenwood just needed to win the scrum and kick to touch to become the two-time champion.
