St. Bonaventure vs Notre Dame - Collegiate Rugby Championship

Bowl Final, St. Bonaventure v. Notre Dame: The rain delay did not diminish the enthusiasm of the raucous Bonnies’ supporters in the stands. The quick try from Cory Ratka after an Irish mistake on its own try line put the Bonnies up 5–0. Men from South Bend got a try of their own through Neilus Mulvihill at the four-minute mark. Leo Fangmeyer easily took the conversion from in front of the post for the 7–5 Irish lead. The card on Notre Dame’s Jake Randle left the Irish with six-on-seven. The Bonnies just narrowly missed out on a try right before the half when Mulvihill caught the Bonnie runner and dragged him by the shorts into touch. Short handed, the Irish soon won a penalty and kicked to touch at their own twenty-two. The gamble nearly paid off when the exchange between Mike Matarazzo and Joe Rombalski resulted in a knock on instead of the likely sixty-meter scamper for points.
Eighty-eight seconds into the second half, Matarazzo got the five-pointer for the Irish to edge further ahead. A yellow card to Colin Sustersic forced the Bonnies to play short handed, but North Westall still got the Bonnies in for five. Christian Artuso’s conversion attempt was well struck but just off the mark, leaving Notre Dame on top. Still down a man, Alex Chura powered in with just over a minute left to take the lead at 15–12. The restart came with eighteen seconds on the clock. The Bonnies kicked deep in an attempt to pin the Irish back. Notre Dame won a penalty at the Bonnie’s ten. A fumbled pass by Matarazzo ended the match with the Bonnies as your 2019 CRC bowl champions.
