U. of California vs Virginia Tech - Collegiate Rugby Championship

In the first game of the day on NBC, the Cal Bears beat a tired Virginia Tech squad, 12-7. Cal put most of the pressure on in the early moments of the game, and they were rewarded with a try to Andrew Battaglia. Right before halftime, Paul Bosco finessed his way past the line for a nice try. A conversion gave them a 12-0 lead at the half. A brilliant play by Michael Cirbee led to the first Virginia Tech try of the game early in the second half. Cirbee nearly knocked-on, but picked it up, booted the ball downfield, and wrestled with a Cal defender at the try line before finally slamming the ball down. They would convert to bring the Hokies within five points. Cal tried to respond, but a knock-on stopped their run. The Hokies tried to respond, but ran out of gas and couldn’t find any more points.
