Each playing just their second match of the tournament, in theory both Delaware and Virginia Tech had a lot to play for. Bobby McDonald gave Virginia Tech the first lead, with Michael Cirbee adding the conversion. John Gerard added the Hokies’ second try and Cirbee notching the kick. (14–0). The Hokies took firm control of the match with Brian O’Neal’s try two minutes into the second half. Nick Kennedy’s try in front of the post put the any slim doubt out of mind. O’Neal added the two points for a 26–0 with ninety seconds remaining. Delaware’s lone meaningful threat to score was snuffed out when John McCurdy was pushed into touch ten meters from the Hokie line.
