Navy - Collegiate Rugby Championship

Founded in 1963, the Men‰’s Naval Academy Rugby Club is a member of USA Rugby‰’s Division I-A Rugby East Conference. USNA has consistently been among the top rugby clubs in the nation since the inception of the collegiate championship in 1980. Most recently, USNA Men‰’s Rugby has qualified for the National Championship in 2004, 2005, 2007, 2009, and 2011. 38 Midshipmen have also been selected as Collegiate All-Americans. The Naval Academy mission places an extraordinary emphasis on physical development that is uncommon in most present-day undergraduate programs. That emphasis comes from a deeply held belief that the attributes of successful leaders are developed as much on the playing field as in the classroom. Athletic competition instills mental toughness, competitive and team spirit, aggressiveness in confrontation, the will to win and the determination to fight on, regardless of the odds. Physical readiness and teamwork are best forged through spirited athletic competition and demanding physical training. Few other sports embody the professional warfighter traits of teamwork, courage, selflessness and help instill the warrior ethos like Rugby. Today, the United States Naval Academy fields both men‰’s and women‰’s Rugby teams. The four men‰’s teams and two women‰’s teams provide spirited, physically demanding competition for over 125 members of the Brigade of Midshipmen. The Navy Rugby program is committed to providing an opportunity for intensely physical athletic competition while continuing to compete at the highest intercollegiate level.
