Founded in 1985, the Texas Rugby Longhorn Team is a premier collegiate rugby program in Texas. With its 25 year history, the Longhorns are currently undefeated in 15‰’s and on path to win an automatic bid to the Division 1-AA Sweet 16. The Longhorn players have a history of participating with the local charitable work including the National Down Syndrome Society Buddy Walk and Tackling Cancer. For the past two years, the University of Texas Rugby Team has donated CRC tickets to Philadelphia‰’s Big Brother Big Sisters. With the growth of Rugby Sevens, the format in which the sport returns to the Summer Olympics in 2016, has spurred further development and exposure to the sport of rugby. Texas has produced 1 U.S. National Sevens player, Mexico National player and a number of Men‰’s ITT players that compete in the Men‰’s Invitational Trials Championship, a feeder tournament to the U.S National Team. Last year, the Longhorns were knocked out in the quarterfinal game on nationally televised tournament on NBC. The Longhorns have participated a number of recognized Sevens tournaments, including 2 Las Vegas Invitational tournaments, the Big XII tournament and USA Rugby‰’s inaugural national Sevens tournament.
